Photo shows largest upper Cowlitz natural steelhead to return this year

Scott Gibson is holding the largest natural-origin winter steelhead that arrived at the Salmon Hatchery separator in December. “We are thrilled to see this fish and know its origin,” said Tacoma Power Senior Fisheries Biologist Mark LaRiviere. The steelhead had a cheek tag from being handled as a smolt at the Cowlitz Falls fish collection facility. Accordingly it was returned to the upper Cowlitz River to contribute its significant genetics to the steelhead gene pool in the upper river.
